Babies on the Brain?

I’ve never been one to sit still. My hands always have to be busy doing something. My grandmother likes to joke that even when I was a kid I would never JUST watched TV. I’d be drawing, painting, or creating something. This still holds true for my adult self. Even now as I type this post, I’m partially watching Jeopardy.

Recently, I’ve got babies on the brain.

Reader Feature: Craft Lace Creations by Aelicia Mechele

Hey Curvinistas!

I haven’t done a reader feature in awhile, so I am so excited to share Craft Lace Creations by Aelicia Mechele! Now do you all remember “gimp” and lanyard crafts from back in the day? Well, my friends and I use to create all sorts of knot patterns like the “Cobra”, the “chinese stair case”, “the zipper”, etc, and use them as key chains. Now a days, most kids just play video games and watch TV, so I haven’t seen anything like this in YEARS!  When I saw Craft Lace Creations’ accessories, it took me wayyyy back! Not only has Aelicia revived a lost art form (yesss this stuff was serious), but she put her own spin on it by making it into unique jewelry!

What inspires you to create new pieces?

Aelicia: Seeing OOTD photos that focus on accessories is very inspiring. It pushes me to create pieces that look great with any outfit. Mistakes that I’ve made while crafting can be inspiring too. When it happens I take notes and use them to come up with something new.

Describe the woman who you envision wearing your pieces?

Aelicia: A fashionista who absolutely loves color and appreciates pieces that stand out. She also knows how to make a statement with the right amount of arm candy. Someone like @ahsiek1118 comes to mind. I like her style!

Do you plan on expanding accessories line?

Aelicia: I’m actually expanding as I go along on this creative journey. I often experience 2AM light bulb moments when ideas pop in my head. Anyone who enjoys crafting knows exactly what I mean. As an artist even if you don’t plan to expand it will naturally happen in one way or another.

Art Basel Miami 2014

Art Basel is an annual gathering of artists from around the world to showcase some of their greatest work. These usually week-long events are hosted in Basel, Switzerland, Miami, and new this year in Hong Kong. Now, I’ve lived in South Florida for about 12 years, but what’s crazy is that this was my first time attending this event. Crazy?! I know!
